Literary devices 2

Today in Literature we have been working again with literary devices.

Tasks:

  1. Watch the video and have a look at the webpage.
  2. Check your last activity, and correct it.
  3. Once you have finished, post on your blog the ones you didn´t know from the webpage: Literary Devices.

The Literary Devices that I didn’t know were:

Satire: is a type of literary device where an author ridicules specific people, groups or some aspect of society.

Anagram: Anagrams are an extremely popular form of literary device wherein the writer jumbles up parts of the word to create a new word.

Sonnet: is a type of poem that has a specific rhyme and meter.

Onomatopoeia: is a word that describes words that represent sounds.

Refrain: is repetition of sounds or words to form a pattern.

Antithesis: An antithesis is used when the writer employs two sentences of contrasting meanings in close proximity to one another.

Parody: is a type of literary work that satirizes another work, its author, or the ideas presented.

25/03 TRABAJO A DISTANCIA: CUARTA CLASE

25/03 TRABAJO A DISTANCIA: CUARTA CLASE

Actividades: PARA-TRABAJAR-CON-LA-SIRENA

Literary Devices

Today in our Literature virtual class we have been working with literary devices. Our task was to take 2 quizzes and then to write down the ones we did incorrectly. After that we had to do an activity which consisted of matching the words with the definitions provided.

The answers I did wrong:

Picture this literary scene: the main character hears a scream, and then sees a man running out of the room with a bloody knife. You can often come to the conclusion (most of the time) that he killed whoever just screamed, although it never says outright that «the guy with the knife butchered the screamer.» This type of intelligent conclusion drawn by the reader based on clues and observations is called a(n) __________?The correct answer was Inference

«The wise fool is burning my taco» employs what kind of literary device? The correct answer was Oxymoron

This question will use an example from Shakespeare’s classic play, «Romeo and Juliet». In the Fifth Act of the play, Romeo arrives at the Capulet family tomb to find his love, Juliet, supposedly dead. However, we in the audience know that Juliet is not really dead, she merely took a potion to make it look like she was dead for her own motives. When the audience of a story knows more than the characters involved, what type of irony is employed? The correct answer was Dramatic Irony

«Flaming ice» is an example of what literary technique? The correct answer was Oxymoron

In the movie «Casablanca» you expect the loving couple to stay together, but then the girl hops off on a plane! Hey, that’s not what I expected! What type of irony is employed in this instance? The correct answer was Irony of the Situation

«Up went the bacon strips» is an example of what literary technique? (This technique is used more often in poetry.)The correct answer was Inversion

Biological drawing

Las week we went to the lab and we made a biological drawing. The task of this class was to draw labelling lines to the drawing and record an audio describing all the experience including difficulties when drawing, when self assessing your drawing, and any ideas on how you can improve your drawing next time you need to make one.

This is my drawing:

18/03 y 19/03 TRABAJO A DISTANCIA: SEGUNDA Y TERCERA CLASE
